Version 3.0 of Tango Tango is released! By popular demand, Full-Featured Messaging is now available to all users of Tango Tango.

Version 3.0 of Tango Tango has been released to app stores and it’s our biggest release since version 1. Read about the changes below.

💬 All-New Full-Featured Chat

You asked for it, Tango Tango now includes full-featured chat, like what you get in WhatsApp, Signal, or GroupMe but fully integrated into Tango Tango and organization-controlled.

This upgrade is included free in your existing Tango Tango plan and available now for all users who update their app to version 3.0.

What You Can Do:

  • Send messages to your existing Channels or create new Channels
  • Message with a Contact privately → go to Contacts → tap the person, → tap Message
  • Send:
    • Text
    • Clickable links
    • Images & Videos
    • GIFs
    • Files
    • User location
  • Long press any message to:
    • React (thumbs up, etc)
    • Reply in thread
    • Pin
    • Edit (only by message author)
    • Copy text

How to Access:

  • Important: To view the new Chat messages & features, a user must have upgraded to version 3.0 of the Tango Tango app. Any members of your organization who have not yet upgraded won't be able to see the new messages or new features.
  • Open the Tango Tango app → tap the “Chat” tab → open any channel.
  • Chat is also available from your web browser via Live Console at manage.tangotango.io. Just click a channel and select "Messages".

Why use Tango Tango Messaging:

  • One app for users for both PTT & Messaging, no more bouncing between apps
  • One user list to administer, less overhead for admins
  • Built for organizations, not consumers. Your messages are owned and managed by your organization, not individual users
  • Server-hosted and secure. Tango Tango data lives on the server, not on the end user's phone.

Messages follow the same Retention guidelines you have setup for your PTT Recordings. Default is 30 days. This retention period can be made shorter or longer.

💬 Separate Chat & Recordings Views

We’ve split the Messaging and Recordings views to make each easier to read. To access Channel Recordings do one of the below:

  • Long press any Channel, press "Recordings" from the options that appear.
  • Select any Channel on the Channels page (the leftmost tab on the bottom of the app) and swipe from right to left on the screen to go to Recordings.
  • While in Chat view (where you read text messages), click the grey button with a soundwave in the bottom right corner of the screen to see Recordings for that Channel. You can click the grey button again (now with a messaging bubble) to return to Chat view.

📞 Improved Call Screen Behavior

The Call Screen will no longer interrupt you. This small change makes a big difference, especially when using the new Chat feature.

  • The Call Screen (with map, talkers, and PTT button) now only takes over the full screen if you’re on the Channels tab of the app
  • If you are anywhere else, you’ll see a green Call Bar drop down from the top of the screen with channel, org, and talker info when a PTT call starts.
  • To see the Call Screen during an active call: Tap the green Call bar to jump into the full Call Screen. Or open the Channels tab at any time and you'll see the Call Screen if a call is ongoing.

🔉 LTE Radio Volume Improvements

Our new LTE Radios have been a big hit! But you told us the minimum volume was a bit too loud in quiet environments.

  • In version 3.0, we’ve introduced new audio profiles that reduce volume at low volume settings while keeping full volume for noisy environments.
  • Also, turning the volume knob all the way down will now mute the radio, just like turning a traditional radio's volume knob all the way to zero.
  • The LTE Radio update will roll out more slowly since these radio don't use app stores. If you're an LTE radio user and you'd like this pushed to you more quickly, please email Support.

✅ Admins: Onboarding text now "on" by default

We've heard from admins that, most of the time, you want to send your newly created users an activation text prompting them to download & login to the app. So, we've made the onboarding notification checkbox now checked by default. If you don't want to send the onboarding text to brand new users, you can still uncheck it.
